Bears In Banff Campout

July 21st, 2000 through July 23rd, 2000

The Grouse Campground is a private campground just off the TransCanada highway between Rafter Six Ranch and the YMCA Campground (about 40 minutes west of Calgary).  The campground has been booked specifically for Bearback Calgary this year.  We should not have to worry about other people coming in and setting up tents which means that the bears can roam as free as they want.

Cost will be $15 per night per unit (tent).  This is roughing it boys.. no electricity.  Also no stores really close by.. Bring shelter, sensible clothing, and food with you.

There are washrooms on site but shower facilities are down the road at the Bow Valley Campground.  Transport will be arranged to and from the showers and/or instructions will be provided on how to get there.

Since the campground is on the edge of a big field, that means a wide variety of sports are possible.. Some suggested activities are Baseball, Frizbie, Frizbie Golf, or Horseshoes.. You are welcome to bring your own as long as they are not overly distructive to the bears on the field.

Some events planned:

Friday night - Club Sponsored BBQ ($5 a person - it could be a lot more and last year there was a LOT of food)

Saturday morning/afternoon - (Depending on interest) Whitewater Rafting, Horseback Riding (and you thought that bears walked funny before?), a hike or scramble (a hike that requires some rockclimbing ability, or at least good boots), Golfing at SilverTip golf course in Canmore.

Saturday night - Big Bonfire.. nothing like telling stories around the fire.. and getting to drunk to remember them the next morning.

Sunday morning - Brunch at the Rafter Six Ranch (~$10 a person) for those who survived the night before.
