  • February 16 to 18th, 2001 (Friday Night, Saturday, Sunday) William Watson Lodge Weekend Getaway
    We have booked the William Watson Lodge Unit #1 located in Kananaskis Country
    - Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, located off Highway 40. Bring food, sleeping bags and pillows. There will be kitchen facilities available.
    Activities - Cross Country Skiing, Hot Tub, Queer as Folk videos. If you are going skiiing bring skis (no where to rent them at the lodge) or to the hot tub, a towel and swim suit. Besides skis, bathing suit and the usual, you must bring your own bedding: sleeping bag and pillow.
    And as for food we will pot luck so bring what you can and we will throw things together. Lodge checkout time will be Sunday, February 18th at Noon. (* - Sunday night is also an option, if enough people are interested; as Monday is a Family Day Holiday.) Bears may possibly go for a nice brunch afterwards on Sunday. It should be a lot of fun. Please email Lyle if you are attending. A group of us are leaving Friday from Lyle's place. Meet around 5:30, leaving shortly afterward.  Some people may be driving in on Saturday or Sunday.

  • March 17th - Weekend in Edmonton - Planned activities include: afternoon at West Edmonton Mall Waterslide Park, dinner out, pub night with the Edmonton bears. On March 17th Bearback Calgary is going up to West Edmonton Mall to the Water Park.  We will be meeting some of the Edmonton Bears there.  We will also go the the bar there in the evening.   If we get at least 15 people we qualify for the group  rate of $12.00 per person ( a choice pass), but we have to let them know at least two business days in advance.  Otherwise the cost is $24.95 per  person   for the day pass.  If you would rather go to galaxyland the pass can also be used for it (same cost, but it has to be one or the other).  Many of us will stay the night and come back the following day and we are looking into inexpensive hotel rooms (will probably be between $50 and $80 for double occupancy).  The Hotel of choice for the Edmonton trip seems to be the Howard Johnson.  Once again the rates for this hotel are $63.00 plus tax for double occupancy and is close to the bars downtown.  So far there are 6 people going up from Calgary and 3 joining us from Edmonton. Could you indicate if you are staying overnight and need a room.   Could you also indicate if you will be driving, whether you have room for passengers, or would like a ride with someone else.  Let me know if you have any questions.  prez@bearbackcalgary.com

    Things are in motion to make this years PRIDE Street Fair the biggest celebration of Gay Pride that Calgary has ever seen. If you came to last years' Street Fair, you undoubtedly had a fantastic time and will be attending again. We are planning to have another Beer Garden this year in addition to the live entertainment, sporting events, dunk tank, AstroJump etc.

    A tour of the Calgary Stampede midway and exhibition grounds with the Calgary Bears. We are meeting outside the center of the Big Four Building (benches and flower beds there) at 12:30, and checking back at 2:30 and 7 PM on Saturday.     This camp ground has a heated hall with a big stone fire place and power in the hall. If it is raining we will be eating inside.  (Lyle has done his sun dance.) Friday night is the club BBQ and the rest of the weekend you supply your own food. We have in the past done a pot luck on the Saturday night. and Sunday we are going for brunch at rafter 6 ranch.   • Saturday, August 11th, 2001 - Bears Get Wet Sylvan Lake Water Slide Park
    Well it's the middle of summer and what better way to spend it than a day at the beach. We will be meeting at 9:30 a.m. at the front of the Sears Outlet at the Deerfoot Mall on Saturday morning to coordinate car pooling. Of course, if this is too early for you or you already have your own transportation, feel free to just meet us up at Sylvan Lake whenever you get there.  Like I said, we are hoping to get there sometime between 10:30 and 11:00 am. We should be able to make it to Sylvan Lake by 10:30 for a full day in the water.  If you're not interested in the
    Waterslide Park, there is a very nice beach on the lake; perfect for fur spotting.The weather forecast is predicting a high of +28 on Saturday; a perfect summer day.  Mmmm... all those daddies... all that fur... If you haven't been before, it's a hoot.  Hope to see you all there.

  • Saturday, April 6th - Bears Do West Edmonton Mall
    Details: The plan is to head up to Edmonton on Saturday morning (April 6) and do the West Edmonton Waterslide park in the afternoon.  Arrangements are being made to use passes and discount coupons for people going up so that costs will be kept to a minimum.
    We had a blast last year.  We went for dinner after the waterslide and then to Buddies and the Roost later.  Had a nice breakfast on Sunday morning and headed back down to Calgary after that.  Obviously any suggestions for activities while in Edmonton are very welcome.
    Please RSVP to Steve at success942@shaw.ca   by Wednesday, March 27 so he can book the appropriate number of rooms at the hotel.  This year the hotel, Tower on the Park,  will be closer to Buddies and is reasonably priced.  E-mail Steve for hotel details.  If you have your own accommodations, that's OK too.

    Bearback Calgary's first Beerbust will be held at the Eagle this Saturday (June 22nd).
    The beerbust will be starting at 8 PM.  The admission to the back half of the bar for the beerbust will be $2.00.
    Canadian draft beer will be sold for $2.00 during the beerbust.
    Bearback Calgary will also be holding a 50/50 draw to raise funds for the club during the evening.

  • July 5th - 7th (we've been bumped to an earlier date because of the G8-Summit)
    Annual Camping Trip #6 We will be at the same location as last year. But Lyle informs us that the site has been upgraded with Kitchens, Sinks and Flush Toilets ! (Sorry folks, the showers are still across the highway.) Owl Group Campground in Bow Valley Provincial Park Cost $20 per night per unit. This camp ground has a heated hall with a big stone fire place and power in the hall. If it is raining we will be eating inside.  (Lyle has done his sun dance again.) Friday night is the club BBQ and the rest of the weekend you supply your own food. We have in the past done a pot luck on the Saturday night and Sunday we are going for brunch at rafter 6 ranch. We are in Owl group area which is between the Y camp and Rafter six ranch. Please try to RSVP to Lyle or Curtis so we can get an idea how many people will be going. (Late arrivals will still be welcome, however -- so don't let that discourage you from coming.)

  • Sunday, June 8th - Calgary Gay Pride Parade & Street Fair
    Bearback Calgary will be doing a float again this year. The parade route starts from 17th Ave. and 2nd St. S.W. at noon. The staging area is 2nd St. S.W. north of 17th Ave, and is available starting at 9am. We'll meet by the float when it arrives. We have teddy bears and candy to hand out! The parade starts at noon, so be by our float a little early for pictures and seating (if you'd like to ride). WE ALWAYS HAVE A GREAT TIME!! Check out past years' pictures on the website to see for yourself!
    We plan on meeting at The Eagle in the afternoon for a few drinks and happy hour pricing.
    There is a street fair at the end of the parade route (Connaught School - 1121-12th Ave. S.W.) that runs until 4pm.

  • July 18-19-20th Weekend Bear Campout 2003 Brooks, Alberta - Dinosaur Provincial Park Campground 1 ½ hour drive from Calgary
    This is a group use area, so we'll be by ourselves. The park provides firewood, bus tours, guided hikes, exhibits, a theatre, bookstore, showers, food service and a laundromat. This place has tons of activities and promises to be a lot of fun!!
    Those showing up will get a free supper on Friday, courtesy of the club. This will be hot dogs, hamburgers, and whatever we can dig up.
    The park is located east of Calgary, by travelling to Brooks, Alberta (about 130 km) along highway 1, then going about 48 km north of Brooks.

If you're going, meet at 9am in Deerfoot Mall parking lot (by Sears) for car pooling. Since weather in Calgary or Edmonton can differ from Sylvan Lake, if you go, you take your chances. Weather looks good for the weekend anyway, so we hope to see you there. Just look for a group of bears hanging out in the parking lot in front of Sears. We'll be having lunch and supper out there, and we'll be making a day of it.

Last minute attendance is also welcome if it can't be helped. We always have tons of food!

The course takes about an hour to hour and a half to run. The cost is $12 per person.
    Afterward we will come back to our place for some refreshments and a soak in the hot tub. Please b.y.o.b.  We will have lots of pop and juice here. Don't know if people would like a snack or not?   • Wednesday, December 17th – Zoo Lights! At the Calgary Zoo The meeting point is the LRT station tunnel on the north side of the zoo, by the mastodon, at 7:00pm. Park near the north parking lot for easy parking.

  • Sunday, January 25th - Bears do Banff. We'll have Dinner, sightseeing, and a soak in the Banff Hot Springs. Meet at Lyle's Place
    (4636 Monterey Ave. NW -at the corner of Home Rd.) at 10:00am. We'll leave there at 10:30am Bring swimsuit & towel - if going to the hot springs.
